Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, who is also the First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), granted an exclusive interview to Nikkei Asia yesterday.

Nikkei Asia is a top source for economic and political news, essential for global investors and policymakers. The CDC’s decision to grant the interview aims to highlight Cambodia’s improved credibility, increasing opportunities, and competitive investment advantages to the international business community.

During the interview, Deputy Prime Minister Chanthol outlined key elements of Cambodia’s economic development strategy. He focused on the investment climate, highlighting the country’s political stability and flexible legal framework, which provide appealing incentives to attract foreign direct investment.

He said Cambodia’s ongoing efforts to diversify its industrial structure involve a strategic shift from a garment-focused economy to higher value-added sectors such as electronics assembly, food processing, and the automotive industry.

The Deputy Prime Minister said Cambodia’s strength lies in times of global economic instability. He said ongoing investments in key infrastructure, the development of specialised vocational training to create a skilled workforce, and the acceleration of digitalisation in public services. These efforts aim to help Cambodia better manage global economic fluctuations.

Chanthol said the government’s diplomatic approach to Cambodia-Thailand border issues emphasises transforming border regions into peaceful zones and enhancing economic cooperation for mutual benefit.

According to the CDC, this interview stands as a testament to the Cambodian government’s openness and readiness, under Prime Minister Hun Manet’s visionary leadership, to collaborate closely with international partners.

By engaging with reputable media outlets like Nikkei Asia, Cambodia aims to enhance confidence and attract high-quality investments to support sustainable national economic growth and realise the Cambodia Vision 2050 of becoming a high-income country. AKP
