Malaysian Tourism Minister Pledges to Strengthen and Expand Tourism Cooperation with Cambodia
On the afternoon of June 19, 2025, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from His Excellency Dato’ Sri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture of Malaysia, at the Peace Palace.
During the meeting, His Excellency the Minister conveyed his sincere thanks to Samdech Borvor Thipadei for the opportunity for him and his delegation to pay a courtesy call on this occasion.
He expressed his satisfaction with the strong relationship and cooperation between Malaysia and Cambodia, particularly in the tourism sector. He highlighted tourism’s crucial role as a driver of economic growth, job creation, and cultural promotion. To further strengthen this sector, the Minister reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to deepening and expanding tourism ties with Cambodia through enhanced people-to-people exchanges. Both countries’ tourism ministries will continue cooperating to promote tourism, including cultural and artistic tourism.
In response, Samdech Borvor Thipadei warmly welcomed the Minister and his delegation to Cambodia and congratulated Malaysia on successfully hosting the 46th ASEAN Summit and related meetings. He agreed with the Minister’s views on tourism’s vital role in fostering economic growth and people-to-people connectivity. Samdech Borvor Thipadei recalled his bilateral meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, during which both leaders agreed to enhance cooperation in several key areas, including tourism. Samdech Borvor Thipadei also expressed satisfaction with the establishment of direct flights between Cambodia and Penang, while emphasizing the potential for further expanding flight connectivity. In this regard, he encouraged both nations’ tourism ministries to strengthen their collaboration, including the development of joint tourism packages.
Additionally, Samdech Borvor Thipadei urged both sides to explore opportunities for sub-national tourism cooperation, such as city-to-city and province-to-province partnerships, to deepen mutual understanding of each other’s tourism, culture, and arts.
