Regarding the Thai Side’s Accusations Concerning the Cambodia-Thailand Border Issue
October 9, 2026
Q1: What is Cambodia’s stance on Thailand’s accusation that Cambodia is distorting the facts concerning border issues to serve its domestic political interests?
A: Cambodia has no intention of distorting the facts or using border issues for domestic political gain, as alleged by Thailand. Cambodia does not want war and has no intention of escalating tensions. As Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet has affirmed, Cambodia continues to use diplomacy and international legal mechanisms to seek a just and lasting solution, while protecting its sovereignty and legitimate rights. Therefore, raising border issues and seeking a resolution through international law should not be considered as twisting the truth or provocation. Any disagreement over information should be resolved based on facts and concrete evidence.
Q2: Can Thailand’s continued delay of JBC work help Cambodia and Thailand achieve a just and lasting peaceful border resolution?
A: Delaying the process cannot serve as a substitute for resolving border issues through established technical mechanisms. Only clear border survey and demarcation through the JBC mechanism, based on relevant conventions, treaties, and map documents, can lead to a sustainable solution.
Q3: What measures must the Thai side implement to demonstrate genuine goodwill in resolving border issues?
A: The Thai side must refrain from further delays and engage in the border demarcation process in good faith, in accordance with the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding and the Joint Statement of December 27, 2025. The Thai side must resume the work of the JBC based on relevant conventions, treaties, and map documents to clearly establish the border demarcation. Demonstrating goodwill through such concrete actions will help build confidence and move toward achieving lasting peace between the two countries.
