State institutions, private sector representatives and the public are sharing their condolences with the family of Warrant Officer Mut Saveun, who was killed on December 10, on the frontline at Boeung Trakuon. Adding to the tragedy, Saveun was four months pregnant.

On Thursday, December 11, the Ministry of Women’s Affairs posted a message expressing condolences to the family of the brave officer, who sacrificed her life for the territorial integrity of Cambodia.

Saveun, 43, was a proud member of Tank Battalion 67 under the Royal Cambodian Army’s Military Region 5, stationed at Boeung Trakuon in Sampov Loun district, Battambang province.

She came from a military family and had one daughter, a second-year English literature student.

Her body is being kept at the family home at Phnom Touch area, Inchit village, Chheu Teal commune, Banan district, Battambang province, where traditional funeral rites are being held, according to the Battambang branch of Preah Sihanouk Raja Buddhist University.

The university issued a deeply sorrowful message to the family of her daughter, who is mourning the loss of her beloved mother.

The university expressed profound regret for the loss of such an outstanding soldier, saying she sacrificed her life in defense of the motherland against the Thai’s “inhumane act of aggression”.

“Although she has passed away from this world, her courage, determination, sacrifice and love for the motherland – for which she gave her life to defend the integrity of our nation’s territory – will remain forever in our hearts,” said the university, in a statement.

On the morning of December 11, Banan district governor Sreng Sokha visited the family home where funeral arrangements for Saveun are being prepared.
