Senate President Hun Sen has called on Mondulkiri provincial authorities to strengthen cross-border cooperation with Vietnam to promote bilateral trade and economic growth.
The call came during his meeting with about 500 provincial, municipal, district, commune, and Sangkat council members, as well as leaders of provincial departments and institutions, at the Mondulkiri Provincial Hall yesterday.
Mr Hun Sen urged local authorities to continue improving public service delivery while enhancing tax and customs collection and intensifying efforts to combat tax evasion in order to increase national revenue.
He also said that maintaining national stability and public security is important through the continued implementation of the Safe Village-Commune Policy, including stronger action against robbery, drug trafficking, cybercrime, and other crimes.
The Senate President called on authorities to pay greater attention to veterans and retirees in recognition of their contributions to the country, while also urging the prompt and impartial settlement of land disputes, with priority given to out-of-court resolutions.
He emphasised the need to protect natural resources by preventing environmental crimes, particularly those related to mining activities, to ensure sustainable development in Mondulkiri.
According to Mondulkiri Governor Kong Kimny, the northeastern province has four border crossings with Vietnam, three of which are operational, and has recorded significant socio-economic progress under successive Royal Governments.
He said Mondulkiri has about 123,700 hectares of agricultural and agro-industrial land producing more than 524,000 tonnes of crops annually. The province is also a major producer of rubber and cashew nuts and has 105 tourist destinations supported by a growing tourism industry.
In the mining sector, Mondulkiri hosts 18 companies operating under 21 licences. Renaissance Minerals (Cambodia) has produced more than 18 tonnes of gold since commercial operations began in 2021.
The visit marked Mr Hun Sen’s 17th provincial outreach mission and his meetings with officials in the 20th province as part of his nationwide engagement with local authorities. -AKP-
