New Ambassador of Japan Pledges to Further Strengthen and Deepen Bilateral Cooperation
On the afternoon of 5 November 2026, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from His Excellency ISHIZUKI Hideo, newly appointed Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the Peace Palace.
During the meeting, the Ambassador spoke highly of the steady progress in relations between the two countries, which were elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023. He reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthening and deepening bilateral cooperation. He also expressed satisfaction with the progress made in cooperation across key areas, including security and defence, trade and investment, and demining operations.
In response, Samdech Thipadei congratulated His Excellency ISHIZUKI Hideo on his appointment as the new Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia and expressed confidence that bilateral relations would continue to be nurtured and strengthened throughout his diplomatic tenure. Samdech Thipadei also expressed his gratitude to Japan for its continued support for Cambodia’s physical infrastructure development, capacity building for Cambodian military officers, cooperation on UNPKO, and demining activities. Furthermore, Samdech Thipadei highlighted the Royal Government of Cambodia’s flexible support measures and incentive policies for foreign investors, including Japanese investors, aimed at strengthening and expanding business-to-business (B2B) linkages to attract greater investment to Cambodia.
Samdech Thipadei and the Ambassador also discussed potential areas for future cooperation, including artificial intelligence (AI) and green technology.
Before concluding the meeting, Samdech Thipadei briefed the Ambassador on recent developments concerning the Cambodia–Thailand border situation, stressing Cambodia’s firm commitment and position to pursuing a peaceful resolution of border issues on the basis of international law and in accordance with the existing conventions, treaties, and agreements between the two countries.
