Hun Sen seeks more German investment as outgoing ambassador wraps up Cambodia posting
Senate President Hun Sen on July 14 expressed hope for increased German investment in Cambodia as he met with outgoing German Ambassador Stefan Messerer, praising his role in strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation in trade, investment, culture and tourism during his four-year tenure in the Kingdom.
Senate spokesman Chea Thyrith said after the meeting that Mr Hun Sen expressed his pleasure at meeting Ambassador Messerer once again before the ambassador concludes his diplomatic mission in Cambodia.
Mr Hun Sen praised ambassador Messerer’s contributions during his tenure, noting that his work had helped strengthen and expand relations between Cambodia and Germany.
According to Thyrith, Ambassador Messerer highlighted several key achievements during his four years as Germany’s ambassador to Cambodia. Among the most significant were facilitating the visit of the German president to Cambodia and enhancing cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, culture and tourism between the two countries.
Messerer also commended Cambodia’s development progress and noted the growing interest among German tourists in visiting the Kingdom, saying Cambodia has become an increasingly attractive destination for German travellers.
He added that Cambodia is also an appealing destination for German retirees seeking a place to travel and enjoy their retirement.
Mr Hun Sen agreed that economic, trade and investment cooperation forms a key pillar of bilateral relations and expressed hope that more German investors would choose Cambodia as an investment destination.
He also thanked Germany for its longstanding support to Cambodia, particularly in public administration reform at the sub-national level and rural development, describing these as important contributions to the country’s development.
