Q1: Are Cambodia’s past protests against Thailand’s acts of aggression merely accusations intended to mislead the international community, as Thailand claims?
A: Cambodia’s past official protests are a presentation of the actual situation, supported by concrete evidence. Cambodia merely raises these issues with the relevant parties and the international community in order to protect its sovereignty and legitimate rights, as is the duty of any country whose sovereignty has been violated. Therefore, presenting the facts and protesting against Thailand’s aggressive actions cannot be considered as misleading the international community. If Thailand disagrees, it should respond by presenting evidence and facts, rather than accusing Cambodia—the victim—of deceiving the world. Cambodia is confident that the international community cannot be misled.
Q2: If Thailand claims that its deployment of troops on Cambodian territory does not constitute a determination of the border line, why does Thailand refuse to conduct survey and demarcation in accordance with Point 3 of the Joint Statement of December 27, 2025?
A: Through this question, the general public, including the international community, can truly understand the facts easily. If Thailand genuinely considers that its troop deployment does not constitute a determination of the border line, then Thailand should respect the agreement and avoid unilateral actions that could alter the situation on the ground, by maintaining its forces in their current positions. However, Thailand has instead continued to destroy property belonging to Cambodian citizens and construct new structures in their places, creating a fait accompli that amounts to an attempt at permanent occupation, while refusing to resolve the issue through the JBC mechanism for surveying and clearly demarcating the border.
Q3: The Thai side frequently claims that peace must begin with respect for the Joint Statement. So what obligations must Thailand fulfill?
A: If Thailand genuinely wants peace, it must implement every point agreed upon in the Joint Statement, just as Cambodia is doing. Thailand must avoid unilateral actions that could create a new situation or escalate tensions, cease actions that could alter the status quo, and create a favorable atmosphere for the JBC to function. Cambodia has chosen protest and resolution through peaceful mechanisms instead of using force, precisely because it desires a peaceful solution in accordance with international law. What about Thailand?
