The current situation along the Cambodia–Thailand border, following the entry into force of the ceasefire, from December 27, 2025, to January 13, 2026, is as follows.

H.E. Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, the Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia, wishes to inform the public as well as members of national and international media as follows:

The current situation along the Cambodia–Thailand border, following the entry into force of the ceasefire, from December 27, 2025, to January 13, 2026, is as follows.

Since the ceasefire took effect, Cambodia has been consistently respecting and implementing the Ceasefire agreement, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand on October 26, 2025, the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025, and other relevant documents.

Simultaneously, Cambodia has provided full support to the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) and emphasized the indispensable importance of strengthening the AOT’s role and mandate. This support aims to verify and ensure the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire while promoting transparency, accountability, and mutual trust.

In light of the above, during the first week of January, the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) of the Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia coordinated with the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) to observe, verify, and report on the situation at six locations in Oddar Meanchey Banteay Meanchey and Preah Vihear Provinces. All these sites are civilian areas and infrastructures that were severely damaged by Thai military attacks, as detailed below:

– On Sunday, January 4, 2026: The AOT observed, verified, and reported on the situation at the O’ jik Bridge, located between Chongkal District, Oddar Meanchey Province, and the border of Srei Snam District, Siem Reap Province.

– On Monday, January 5, 2026: The AOT observed, verified, and reported on the situation at the Choam International Point of Entry in Anlong Veng District, Oddar Meanchey Province.

– On Tuesday, January 6, 2026: The AOT observed, verified, and reported on the situation in Prey Chan and Chok Chey villages, O’ Bei Chon Commune, O’ Chrov District, Banteay Meanchey Province.

– On Thursday, January 8, 2026: The AOT observed, verified, and reported on the situation in the O’ Smach International Point of Entry area, O’ Smach Commune, Samrong Municipality, Oddar Meanchey Province.

– On Saturday, January 10, 2026: The AOT observed, verified, and reported on the situation at the Boeung Trakoun Point of Entry area in Thma Puok district, Banteay Meanchey province. At the same time, the AOT also observed and visited the displaced civilians at Wat Kandol camp in Thma Puok district, Banteay Meanchey province.

– On Tuesday, January 13, 2026: The AOT observed, verified, and reported on the situation at the civilians’ village areas in Sra’aem commune, Choam Ksan district, Preah Vihear province, as well as the Preah Vihear temple vicinity, which is one of the most invaluable world heritage sites of humanity.

As a law-abiding and responsible state, Cambodia strictly adheres to the peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with international laws and the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and the ASEAN Charter. Cambodia firmly opposes the threat or use of force and aims to achieve a just, impartial, and lasting solution—the foundation for the people of both countries to co-exist in peace, stability, and development.

The public, as well as national and international journalists, are hereby informed of the facts regarding this matter.
