Prime Minister Hun Manet has called on Cambodians to remain united and resilient in the face of territorial tensions, urging the nation to transform pain into strength, invest in education, and resolve border disputes peacefully and legally to safeguard sovereignty and ensure long-term development.

Mr Hun Manet made the remarks on February 10 while meeting with students who earned grade A scores in the national high school examinations. The event was held at the Chroy Changvar International Convention and Exhibition Center.

Mr. Hun Manet said:

“Together, in the spirit of one Khmer nation, of course we are hurt. We can say that we are injured, but we cannot allow this physical or mental pain to make us fall. The more difficult and painful the situation, the stronger we must become to strengthen our Khmer nation, because no one else can do this for us.

During this painful period, we must work hard to build our capabilities. In fact, students who achieved grade A and those who did not are the same. Regardless of level, everyone must strive to learn for the future of our nation.

Cambodia must be strong because the Khmer people must be strong. In education, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport has worked hard to strengthen teachers’ capacity in order to improve education in all fields.

Economic and social development must go hand in hand with greater efforts to resolve problems peacefully, based on international law. On border issues, this is the principle the Royal Government has consistently upheld, because only solutions based on principles can ensure long-term effectiveness.

The process may be slow and difficult, but we must face the challenges together, find solutions, and prevent them from happening again to ensure our well-being. Areas that were once battlefields later became zones of development. In the 1980s and 1990s, Cambodia experienced internal conflict before achieving development and improved relations with neighboring countries. Unfortunately, in a short period, some areas have once again become battlefields. As a society, we believe this will end, turn back into development, and restore the livelihoods of the people.

We will continue to resolve territorial issues through legal means to safeguard our sovereignty and territorial integrity to the best of our ability and available means, as I have stated before. Please trust and understand.”
