More than 80 percent of people displaced by recent border hostilities have returned to their homes following the ceasefire agreement, according to a report released by the Ministry of Interior.

In an update covering the period from 6am on January 25 to 6am on January 26, 2026, the ministry said aggressive acts by the Thai side had affected Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity across seven provinces: Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Koh Kong and Siem Reap.

The ministry reported that an additional 1,301 displaced people returned to their communities during the reporting period, bringing the total number of returnees to about 530,000 people — equivalent to roughly 82 percent of the more than 640,000 people previously displaced. However, 113,976 people remain in displacement camps, including 59,688 women and 37,288 children.

Public services have gradually resumed in several affected provinces, though some facilities remain temporarily closed. In Oddar Meanchey province, 246 schools, 34 hospitals and health centres, a provincial administration, 33 provincial departments, five district administrations, 10 enforcement units, 24 commune and sangkat administrations and 24 police stations have resumed operations. However, 14 schools and seven health facilities remain closed.

In Banteay Meanchey province, most public service institutions at provincial, municipal, district and commune levels have reopened, while five schools and one hospital or health centre remain suspended. In Preah Vihear province, 32 schools, 12 hospitals and health centres and public service institutions at one district and six commune levels have resumed operations, while 29 schools and 14 health facilities are still closed.

The ministry said there were no new reports of damage during the latest reporting period. However, cumulative damage recorded since December 7, 2025, includes 980 houses, seven privately owned buildings, 10 apartments or hotels, four gas stations, one private market, 34 cars, 10 motorcycles, warehouses, cell towers, water facilities, agricultural structures and livestock. Public infrastructure damage includes 26 schools, 14 hospitals and health centres, 42 government office buildings, 19 pagodas, ancient temples, bridges, markets, roads and electricity facilities. Local authorities are continuing assessments to collect further data.
