Senate spokesperson Chea Thyrith has praised Junior Chamber International Cambodia (JCI) for its role in nurturing young leaders, describing the organisation as a “valuable seedbed” for society.

Speaking at a gathering of JCI Tuol Kork members on January 24, Thyrith said JCI has played an important role in training and developing youth through volunteerism, leadership programmes and community engagement.

“JCI is not only a platform for young people to showcase their abilities through volunteer work, but also a valuable seedbed for society that responds to real needs and promotes a culture of shared benefits,” he said.

He noted that youth involvement in volunteer activities is essential, as it allows young people to develop responsibility, leadership skills and a strong sense of community.

Thyrith described JCI as a non-profit organisation that enables young people from diverse backgrounds to work together and learn from one another, while also connecting Cambodian youth to a global network spanning more than 100 countries.

Highlighting Cambodia’s successful hosting of the JCI ASPAC Conference in 2024, which attracted about 5,000 participants from more than 50 countries, he said the event helped promote tourism and enhance Cambodia’s international profile. The achievement, he added, was commended by the Royal Government led by Prime Minister Hun Manet.

He also called on private companies to continue supporting JCI Tuol Kork, enabling the organisation to successfully implement its 12 planned projects for 2026.

Meanwhile, JCI Tuol Kork Area President Ruos Sath said the participation of senior leaders and distinguished guests provided strong motivation for JCI members, describing the organisation as a “school of life” for young people.

He said JCI helps youth aged 18 to 40 develop leadership, teamwork and management skills, preparing them to become responsible leaders capable of contributing meaningfully to society.

Sath encouraged Cambodian youth to actively engage in volunteer work through JCI, saying it offers valuable experience and opportunities to build personal capacity while contributing to national development. He also urged continued support from the private sector, noting that such backing is vital to turning JCI’s initiatives into concrete results.
