Two Vietnamese military officers have joined the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) in Cambodia to help monitor the implementation of the Cambodia–Thailand ceasefire, reinforcing regional efforts to promote transparency, accountability and lasting peace along the border.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of National Defence, officers from the Department of International Relations and the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) welcomed Colonel Phung Thanh Quang and Colonel Ly Thanh Tam upon their arrival at Techo International Airport at 1pm today.

The two officers will join the AOT in Cambodia to observe, verify, and report on the border situation following the implementation of the ceasefire.

The ministry reaffirmed Cambodia’s continued support for the AOT, stressing the importance of strengthening its role and mandate to ensure the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire and all measures agreed upon by the two countries.

It said the participation of observers from ASEAN member states and other friendly nations contributes to enhancing transparency, accountability and mutual trust throughout the monitoring process.

The government and the ministry also reaffirmed Cambodia’s firm commitment to fully implementing the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) signed on December 27, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand of October 26, both signed last year, and all other relevant agreements.

The ministry said Cambodia remains committed to supporting efforts aimed at accelerating recovery, restoring normalcy in border communities, and promoting lasting peace, stability and security between the two neighbouring countries.
