Prime Minister Hun Manet has called on Thailand to implement the December 27 Joint Statement in its entirety, especially Point 3, noting that while the ceasefire is holding, the peace seems fragile.

Manet turned regional attention to the border dispute as he addressed the ASEAN Future Forum in Hanoi, Vietnam, on June 9.

“Turning to our region, the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand remains in place, but it is in a very fragile state. Cambodia continues to be concerned about the situation on the ground in the occupied areas located deep within Cambodian territory.

“Borders and sovereignty must absolutely not be altered by force or through the creation of a fait accompli on the ground,” he said.

His Thai counterpart Anutin Chanvirakul was in the audience.

Manet added that both Cambodia and Thailand have clearly demonstrated a commitment to a peaceful resolution and to transforming the existing ceasefire into a permanent peace. Specifically, both sides continue to demonstrate adherence to the Joint Statement which accompanied the ceasefire on December 27, 2025.

“Therefore, it is necessary for both parties to implement the Joint Statement in its entirety — fully, effectively and urgently — especially Point 3, which calls for the immediate resumption of survey and border demarcation work by the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), in accordance with existing agreements,” he said.

Manet reiterated recently that Cambodia would always opt for a peaceful resolution with Thailand, noting that the Kingdom would choose negotiations even if just one per cent of talks remained.

He said Cambodia continues to attach great importance to its relationship with Thailand, a close neighbour, with a shared commitment to maintaining peace and prosperity in the region.

He emphasised Cambodia’s steadfast adherence to international law, as well as existing treaties and agreements, along with dialogue, good faith and mutual respect. He described these as key and essential factors in ensuring that sovereignty, territorial integrity and international boundaries are respected.

“This will lead to the restoration of trust, the securing of a lasting peace and allow our displaced citizens to return home safely and with dignity, enabling them to restore their normal livelihoods,” he added.
