Cambodia has reaffirmed its firm commitment to defending national sovereignty through diplomacy and international law, while intensifying efforts to assist citizens affected by ongoing border tensions with Thailand.

According to the Ministry of Interior, as of yesterday an additional 3,041 displaced persons had returned to their homes. Of the more than 640,000 people displaced overall during three weeks of Thai military aggression in December, approximately 510,000 have now reintegrated into their communities.

As a result, 134,731 displaced persons remain in displacement camps, including 70,460 women and 43,903 children.

In a special nationwide address on January 10, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed deep concern over the hardships faced by the population, particularly communities living along the border, and underscored the government’s determination to resolve the dispute peacefully.

He stressed that Cambodia will continue to rely on diplomatic mechanisms and international legal frameworks to safeguard its territorial integrity, in line with previously agreed joint statements reached in late 2025.

Beyond the diplomatic front, the Prime Minister emphasized that the government has mobilized all available resources to protect public safety and livelihoods. These efforts involve close cooperation with partner countries, national and international organizations, as well as the private sector.

According to the address, the government’s assistance strategy includes both immediate relief measures and longer-term plans aimed at stabilizing affected communities and addressing broader challenges arising from the border situation.

The message was intended to reassure citizens nationwide—particularly those in border areas—that the government remains fully engaged, closely monitoring developments, and taking decisive action to protect the nation and ensure the welfare of its people.
