Cambodia PR Team Responses Regarding Cambodia’s Commitment to Mine Clearance
November 3, 2026
Q1: How has the 2025 armed conflict between Cambodia and Thailand seriously affected Cambodia’s commitment to mine clearance?
A: According to data published by the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), the 2025 armed conflict between Cambodia and Thailand created new cluster munition threats across seven provinces. The newly affected areas exceed the total area of land that has been contaminated by explosive remnants from more than three decades of war. In addition to these newly affected areas, Cambodia still has approximately 1,689 square kilometres of land contaminated by mines from past conflicts that have yet to be cleared. This situation has placed a double burden on Cambodia: addressing explosive remnants of past conflicts while simultaneously dealing with new contamination resulting from the 2025 armed conflict with Thailand.
Q2: How has the Royal Government of Cambodia demonstrated its commitment to the mine clearance mission?
A: The Royal Government of Cambodia remains committed to completing two missions as soon as possible: addressing explosive remnants of past conflicts and clearing the new threats resulting from the 2025 Cambodia–Thailand armed conflict. The ultimate goal is to ensure that people can live safely on cleared land and enjoy a future full of hope.
