Thailand’s invasion of Cambodia is a reality the world cannot ignore. In times of conflict, weapons may seize land and intimidate people, but the pen holds a different kind of power — the power to expose the truth, hold perpetrators accountable and shape public understanding. In such moments, journalism becomes not just a profession, but a responsibility to history and humanity.

Unfortunately, not all journalists have lived up to this responsibility. Some Thai media outlets failed to uphold professional standards, presenting distorted narratives or incomplete accounts. These lapses remind us that compromised journalism can unintentionally aid misinformation and obscure justice.

In striking contrast, Cambodian journalists have demonstrated extraordinary courage and integrity. They reported with accuracy, clarity and professionalism, ensuring the global audience could witness the reality on the ground without bias or distortion. Their work is a testament to the vital role of ethical journalism in times of conflict — a role that can be more powerful than any military action.

On behalf of myself, I wish to express my sincere gratitude to these Cambodian journalists, as well as to international journalists — both local and abroad — whose tireless dedication reminds the world that truth, carefully and courageously reported, can pierce through propaganda and misinformation. In the battle for justice and historical record, the pen does more than inform — it protects, preserves and empowers.

As someone closely observing this crisis, I can confidently say that while weapons may impose force, integrity, courage and professionalism in journalism are what truly shape history. Cambodia’s journalists have shown that even in the darkest moments, truth can shine brighter than any weapon.
