Q1: Do Thailand’s current actions align with its own calls for both parties to use mutually agreed mechanisms?
A: Thailand’s current actions do not align with its own calls. The use of mutually agreed mechanisms requires sincere implementation and respect for existing commitments. Thailand cannot call for dialogue and confidence-building while its actual actions on the ground continue to escalate tensions or alter the situation in disputed areas. Moreover, Thailand maintains that it respects the Joint Statement of December 27, 2025, and expresses its willingness to engage in sincere bilateral negotiations aimed at resolving the issues peacefully. Yet, in practice, Thailand has never responded positively to Cambodia’s proposals.
Q2: What evidence does Cambodia have to demonstrate that Thailand has continued to violate Cambodia’s territorial sovereignty?
A: Cambodia relies on evidence and facts that have actually occurred on the ground and have been witnessed and documented by relevant parties, as well as by the international community. In particular, these include Thailand’s continued presence and activities in disputed areas, the deployment of military forces and materiel, the placement of barriers and other obstacles, and unilateral actions aimed at altering the situation on the ground.
Furthermore, these actions have been inspected and directly witnessed by the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) at the locations concerned. Therefore, this is not merely Cambodia’s unilateral claim, but rather facts that have been examined and verified through international mechanisms and existing evidence.
Q3: Thailand has claimed that its genuine objective is the peaceful resolution of border issues. What measures should Thailand take?
A: If Thailand genuinely intends to resolve border issues peacefully, it should demonstrate its commitment through concrete actions by respecting Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, ceasing actions that could alter the situation on the ground, and refraining from creating a fait accompli.
At the same time, Thailand should respect existing commitments and agreements, and sincerely participate in mutually agreed mechanisms, so that sovereignty and border issues can be resolved in accordance with international law and through peaceful means. In particular, Thailand should respond positively to the Cambodian JBC’s proposals to convene a special JBC meeting and to deploy Joint Survey Teams to carry out work on the ground as soon as possible.
