Last week, Worayos Luangsuwan, the newly appointed commander of Thailand’s First Army Region, instructed Cambodia’s Military Region 5 to prepare an evacuation plan for the Cambodian citizens of Prey Chan and Chouk Chey villages, and submit it to Thailand by October 7.

He notified them that it is not received, Thailand will not participate in the upcoming extraordinary Regional Border Committee (RBC) meeting, scheduled for October 10-12 in Poipet town, Banteay Meanchey.

The Thais used the Thai names for the two locations, claiming that that they are in Thailand’s Sa Kaeo province.

The request reminds me of a famous quote from British Prime Minister Winston Churchill who said, “An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last”.

The question we should ask is, how can we justify appeasement in the face of such recent aggressions?
