The Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) has confirmed that MK-84 bombs dropped by Thai fighter jets were used during the recent border war between Cambodia and Thailand, following a field investigation by its Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.

Heng Ratana, Director General of CMAC, said today that the agency’s experts surveyed and identified nine bombing locations in Preah Vihear province, including four bomb explosion craters and five unexploded bomb impact holes.

“Today, 31st July 2025, CMAC’s EOD experts surveyed and identified 9 more bombing locations with 4 bomb exploded craters and 5 unexploded bomb holes,” he said. “It is to confirm that all, MK-84 bomb, bomb craters and holes were recent (24–28 July war) bombardments dropped by the Thai Air Force.”

Ratana emphasised that the findings were backed by CMAC’s comprehensive bomb database, developed with data from the United States covering ordnance used during the Indochina war.

“It is also important to note that CMAC has all Indochina war’s bombs database which was provided by the United States. This database can confirm that there were no bombardments in this area during that war,”he stated.

He further stressed the need for transparency and accountability, particularly regarding modern airstrike records.

“At the same time, F-16 aircrafts and bombs must be well recorded in terms of flights and bombs used, that including bomb serial numbers…!”

Amid a growing wave of misinformation and online speculation, Ratana also extended an invitation to both sceptics and international experts to verify the evidence on the ground.

“There were a number of fake news, thus CMAC wishes to invite whoever has a cast in double with new bombs let coming and visiting the bombs and sites, that including international bombs experts,” he said.
