AKP | Phnom Penh, July 08, 2025 –President of the Senate of Cambodia, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, has called on the Thai judiciary to open an investigation into former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, known for his close ties to the Cambodian leader.

“Regarding recent commentary, several Thai authorities, media outlets, and members of the public have stated that the investigation and crackdown on Kok An (a Cambodian tycoon) is due to his close ties with Hun Sen. Therefore, the Thai court should also launch an investigation into Thaksin, since it is widely known that Thaksin is extremely close to me—so close, in fact, that he even has a reserved room at my home,” wrote Samdech Techo Hun Sen in a social media post this evening.

Samdech Techo questioned whether the Thai court would dare to act consistently, emphasising, “Let’s see if the Thai court dares to open an investigation into Thaksin or not.”

The Senate President continued, “Thailand drops a rock on its own foot! I sincerely congratulate the Thai authorities and police for launching operations to crack down on online crimes within their territory. This effort contributes to reducing the flow of cybercrime into Cambodia, crimes that have long flourished unchecked across Thai soil.”

This dismantling of online crime networks should have been done long ago, rather than delayed until now, Samdech Techo added, noting that in the past, such activities have caused numerous issues for Cambodia, particularly with crimes originating from Thai territory, especially along the Thai border.
