In an effort to swiftly resolve the border issue, Cambodia, through the State Secretariat of Border Affairs (SSBA), has sent a diplomatic note to the Thai side urging progress on the matter. The request was formally reiterated on January 13, 2026, to firmly propose the following:
Cambodia requested the deployment of a joint Cambodia–Thailand surveying team to resume the installation of temporary border markers along the border sections between markers No. 42–47 and No. 52–59 at a mutually appropriate time between January 19 and January 23, 2026.
Cambodia further requested the deployment of a joint surveying team from both sides to conduct on-the-ground operations in late January 2026 to reconstruct 15 border markers, in accordance with the original French-era marker design and at their exact original locations, as mutually agreed by both parties.
The SSBA affirmed that the deployment of joint surveying teams to resume on-the-ground operations would be carried out in accordance with agreed procedures and working modalities, and in line with the substance of the minutes of the special Cambodia–Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) meeting, as well as Point 3 of the Joint Statement of the General Border Committee (GBC) dated December 27, 2025.
