Cambodian Villagers Endure Second Night of Thai ‘Sound Attacks’ Along Border, None Flee Homes
Banteay Meanchey — Cambodian villagers in Chouk Chey, Ou Bei Chanh commune, Ou Chrov district, have remained calm but alert as the Thai army continues its “psychological intimidation” campaign for a second night, broadcasting disturbing noises across the border.
Since around 9 p.m. yesterday evening, Thai troops have played frightening sounds — including ghostly wails, howling, barking, and aircraft engine noises — through powerful loudspeakers directed toward Cambodian homes, according to Khmer Times reporters who are on standby at the scene.
The noises were clearly heard across the entire Chouk Chey village, causing fear and distress among residents.
Villagers have covered their ears to block the intense noise, while those in nearby Prey Chan village fear they could be the next target.
In response, Cambodian authorities have submitted an urgent appeal to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, condemning what they describe as the Royal Thai Armed Forces’ use of “disturbing sounds” as a form of psychological intimidation and harassment against civilians along the border.
