Cambodia and the Philippines Agree to Further Strengthen Defence Cooperation, with Emphasis on Human Resource Training

On the afternoon of Friday, 18 July 2025, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from Lieutenant General Roy M. Galido, Commanding General of the Philippine Army, at the Peace Palace.

During the meeting, Lieutenant General Galido expressed his deep gratitude to Samdech Borvor Thipadei for taking time from his busy schedule to receive him and his delegation. He conveyed his satisfaction with the progress of bilateral relations between the Philippines and Cambodia, particularly the strong cooperation between the armies of the two countries, which has been founded on friendship and mutual trust. The Lieutenant General reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to prioritising cooperation in human resource training, pledging continued support in sharing experience and providing skills training to the Royal Cambodian Army, while also learning from Cambodia’s experiences.

In response, Samdech Borvor Thipadei expressed his pleasure in meeting Lieutenant General Galido again and conveyed warm regards to His Excellency President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., noting that he looked forward to welcoming President Marcos Jr. on a state visit to Cambodia in the near future. The Prime Minister commended the fruitful progress of relations and cooperation between the two armies. He noted that the recent conclusion of a training course stands as a testament to the strong relationship between both countries’ armies. Samdech Borvor Thipadei expressed hope that, building on this collaboration, the two sides could explore opportunities to expand cooperation to include their naval and air forces. Regarding defence cooperation, Samdech Borvor Thipadei underscored the importance of human resource development, particularly in strengthening the capacity of the armed forces to jointly address transnational crime and cybercrime, which continue to pose serious threats to regional and global security and economic stability. Samdech Borvor Thipadei encouraged the armies of both nations to work even more closely together to deepen and broaden the cooperation.
