AKP Phnom Penh, June 12, 2025 — Cambodia has announced its decision to ensure its own supply of electricity and internet services, following threats from Thailand to cut off these essential resources.

In a social media post this evening, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, addressed recent reports circulating on Thai social media platforms. These reports suggest that certain extremist groups in Thailand have called for the suspension of electricity and internet services to Cambodia.

“To avoid putting the Thai side in a difficult position regarding whether or when to proceed with a disconnection, Cambodia has decided to ensure its own electricity and internet supply,” the Prime Minister stated.

He said that H.E. Chea Vandeth, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, had informed him that starting at midnight tonight, all fiber optic network companies or internet service providers in Cambodia will cease purchasing internet bandwidth from Thailand. The move comes in light of Cambodia’s capacity to independently provide sufficient internet services.

Furthermore, H.E. Keo Rottanak, Minister of Mines and Energy, has confirmed that Cambodia can meet its own electricity needs.

Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister has also instructed other ministries and relevant institutions to review and prepare to take additional measures in case of any further threats of disconnection from the Thai side.
