New Sri Lankan Ambassador Pledges to Further Strengthen Sri Lanka-CambodiaRelations
On the morning of 26 February 2025, Samdech Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a courtesy call by Her Excellency Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka with residence in Bangkok, at the Peace Palace.
During the meeting, H.E Edirisinghe expressed her pleasure at being appointed as the new Ambassador to Cambodia and conveyed greetings from His Excellency the President and His Excellency the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka to Samdech Borvor Thipadei. She also expressed her satisfaction with the long-standing Sri Lanka-Cambodia relations and reaffirmed her commitment to further strengthening the bilateral ties, particularly in promoting cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, and tourism.
In response, Samdech Borvor Thipadeiwelcomed and congratulated H.E Edirisinghe on her appointment. He expressed confidence that, under Her Excellency’s diplomatic tenure, relations and cooperation between the two countries would be further enhanced. Samdech Borvor Thipadei noted that Cambodia and Sri Lanka have a long history of relations, share similar religious beliefs, and possess significant potential for cooperation in areas such as education and religious tourism. He encouraged H.E Edirisinghe to work closely with the ministries and institutions of the Royal Government of Cambodia and to promote stronger linkages with the private sectors of both countries.
