Cambodia Reaffirms Commitment to Peace Agreements as 7,873 Civilians Remain Displaced in Boeung Trakuon
The Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia, wishes to inform the public as well as members of national and international media as follows:
On Tuesday, 3 November 2026, at 8:45 a.m. this morning, the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) facilitated the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH) in conducting an observation mission to monitor, verify, and report on the situation along the Cambodia–Thailand border in the area of Boeung Trakuon Border Checkpoint, Kouk Romiet Commune, Thma Puok District, Banteay Meanchey Province.
It should be noted that, since the ceasefire came into effect on 27 December 2025, Thai military forces have continued to install barbed wire, dig trenches, and construct new military bunkers on an ongoing basis. They have also destroyed infrastructure, homes, and property belonging to Cambodian civilians, created fear among the local population, and continued their unlawful occupation of Cambodian territory in the Boeung Trakuon Border Checkpoint area. As a result, a total of 7,873 innocent Cambodian civilians, comprising 1,869 families, including 1,847 children, remain unable to return to their homes.
It should be emphasized that Cambodia maintains a firm stance on protecting the Cambodia–Thailand international border as established by the Indochina–Siam Boundary Commission, by respecting the principles of international law, including the principle of the intangibility of inherited borders (Uti Possidetis Juris), and by respecting the Franco–Siamese conventions and treaties, maps, and the procès-verbaux of the Commission of the Abornement of the Boundary between Indo-China and Siam, as well as relevant agreements and documents that both parties have previously agreed upon.
The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia reaffirm our firm, sincere, and unwavering commitment to fully and faithfully respect and implement the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand on October 26, 2025, and all other relevant agreements. This commitment is made with the aim of ensuring rapid recovery and restoring normalcy, and long-lasting peace and stability.
The public, as well as national and international journalists, are hereby informed of the facts regarding this matter.
Tueday, November 3, 2026.
