ASEAN Observer Team Visits Techo Morakot Health Centre in Preah Vihear
Phnom Penh, August 11, 2026 —
The Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) on Tuesday coordinated a field visit for the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH) to observe, verify and report on the situation at Techo Morakot Health Centre in Techo Morakot village, Morakot commune, Choam Ksan district, Preah Vihear Province.
The visit began at 9:30 a.m. and was led by the Head of Mission of AOT-KH from the Philippines.
According to a press release issued by the Spokeswoman of the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia, the health centre is not a military site but a public healthcare facility serving the local population.
The Ministry stated that in December 2025, the facility was attacked by Thai military forces using aerial bombardment from F-16 fighter jets, 155mm artillery shells, cluster munitions and multiple drone strikes, causing severe destruction and heavy damage to the health centre and surrounding infrastructure.
The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence reaffirmed their firm, sincere and unwavering commitment to fully and faithfully respect and implement the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) issued on Dec. 27, 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand signed on Oct. 26, 2025, and all other relevant agreements.
The commitment, the Ministry stressed, is aimed at ensuring rapid recovery, restoring normalcy, and promoting long-lasting peace and stability.
