On the afternoon of 11 May 2026, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from His Excellency Elchin Amirbayov, Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Special Assignments, and his delegation at the Peace Palace.

During the meeting, the Presidential Representative informed Samdech Thipadei that Azerbaijan considers Cambodia an important partner in bilateral relations. He expressed high appreciation for the progress of relations and cooperation between the two countries, particularly the growing connections between the legislative and executive branches. He added that Azerbaijan is exploring new opportunities to enhance cooperation in various potential sectors, as well as to foster private-sector relations, especially through the expansion of economic and trade cooperation. Additionally, he conveyed an invitation from the President of Azerbaijan to Samdech Thipadei to attend the Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), to be held in Azerbaijan in 2026.

In response, Samdech Thipadei expressed satisfaction with and high appreciation for the progress of bilateral relations between Cambodia and Azerbaijan. He highlighted that the growing friendship between the two countries presents an important opportunity to further strengthen and deepen bilateral cooperation. At the same time, Samdech Thipadei noted that both countries still have considerable potential to expand collaboration in various areas for the mutual benefit of the two nations and peoples. Samdech Thipadei further emphasised that Cambodia is broadening and diversifying its cooperation with countries around the world.

Samdech Thipadei and the Presidential Representative also discussed strengthening and expanding cooperation in key areas, including politics, the economy, trade, energy, tourism, culture, education and agriculture. They further discussed promoting private-sector relations between the two countries through the organisation of business-to-business meetings and business forums aimed at exploring investment opportunities and further increasing bilateral trade volume.
