Hun Sen meets Lao Deputy Defence Minister to strengthen military cooperation

At the Senate Palace on February 17, Senate President Hun Sen met with Lieutenant General Saichay Kommasith, Deputy Minister of National Defence of Laos, to discuss bilateral cooperation.
Chea Thyrith, spokesman for the Senate, said that Mr Hun Sen warmly welcomed Lt Gen Saichay and his delegation to Cambodia.
Samdech Techo views the visit of His Excellency the Deputy Minister of National Defence as an important opportunity to further strengthen bilateral relations between Cambodia and Laos, particularly deepening cooperation between the armies of the two countries.
Lieutenant General Saichay Kommasith, also Chief of the General Staff of the Lao People’s Army, highlighted the strong current relations between Cambodia and Laos, especially in the defence and military sectors. He pledged to make every effort to further develop cooperation between the two countries’ armed forces.
He also expressed appreciation for the peaceful and cooperative management of the Cambodia-Laos border, emphasising the role of both countries’ armies and authorities in maintaining security and stability.
Mr Hun Sen encouraged both countries’ defence sectors to expand collaboration in training and human resource development, including offering scholarships in the defence sector. This aims to strengthen capacity-building and foster more effective cross-border cooperation.
He suggested broadening collaboration to address shared challenges such as combating cross-border crime, managing border disasters like floods and forest fires, and other areas of mutual interest, ensuring Cambodia-Laos border cooperation continues to deepen in all dimensions.
