Chea Thyrith, spokesman for the Senate, said that Senate President Hun Sen and Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, President of the Pakistani Senate, pledged to promote bilateral trade, noting that current trade volume between Cambodia and Pakistan stands at just $53 million.

Thyrith made the remarks during a press conference following the bilateral meeting between Mr Hun Sen and Gilani at the Senate Palace on February 2.

Thyrith said:

Samdech Hun Sen noted that Cambodia–Pakistan relations are currently built on a strong political framework of mutual support. As political ties continue to develop, both countries should focus on expanding economic cooperation and increasing trade, which currently stands at approximately $53 million in 2025. The presidents of the senates of both countries expressed their desire to see bilateral trade grow further.

In addition to strengthening people-to-people connections, Pakistan—with a population of more than 200 million—offers significant opportunities for Cambodia, particularly in attracting more Pakistani tourists. Tourism is an important driver of people-to-people exchanges and plays a key role in fostering and sustaining strong relations between Cambodia and Pakistan.
