Ly Thuch, Senior Minister and First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action Authority, has called on Cambodians to remain united and place their trust in the government’s leadership to protect national sovereignty and secure the future of the nation.

Speaking today during an outreach event with local authorities, armed forces, teachers, and students, Thuch delivered his remarks at an explosive ordnance risk education billboard inauguration held in front of Samdech Ov Samdech Mae Secondary School in Phnom Sampov, Banon district. The area was among those affected by aerial bombardment during the second Cambodia–Thailand conflict.

Thuch stressed that education on the dangers of unexploded ordnance remains a critical priority for the government, noting that Prime Minister Hun Manet, has placed strong emphasis on ensuring the safety of war-affected communities, particularly children, to prevent accidents caused by explosive remnants of war.

He expressed deep gratitude to China for its continued support of mine risk education programmes, as well as to other friendly countries and development partners that have contributed to Cambodia’s humanitarian mine action sector. He said such assistance has helped save tens of thousands of lives, and enabled the restoration of numerous affected communities across the country.

Addressing the current Cambodia–Thailand situation, Thuch urged citizens to remain confident in the government’s leadership and to support the government’s peaceful measures aimed at defending Cambodia’s sovereignty and national interests through political, diplomatic, legal, security, and national defence channels.

He added that following the suffering and acts of encroachment on Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the Prime Minister has appealed to all citizens to stand together in unity and national solidarity, avoid division, and refrain from allowing anger to escalate into violence.

Instead, he said, Cambodians should remain steadfast in the spirit of peace, respect for international law, and dignified protection of national interests. Thuch emphasised that Cambodia’s greatest strength lies in unity between the state and the people, the armed forces, and civil society in safeguarding the homeland, preserving peace and stability, and upholding Cambodia’s reputation on the international stage.
