The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport has installed digital equipment to support teaching and learning at a temporary school in a border area, as part of an emergency response to ensure continued education for displaced students.

The ministry’s Department of Digital Transformation, in cooperation with development partners, has established and equipped digital learning tools at Kandol Primary School, a temporary school in Thma Puok district, Banteay Meanchey province.

The introduction of a “digital school” for displaced children is expected to provide them with access to modern and diverse learning resources for further study and research, despite the school’s temporary conditions.

According to the ministry, the mission aims to respond urgently to ensure that the education of displaced students affected by border conflicts is not disrupted or abandoned.

The emergency technology solutions deployed include an offline digital library system, comprising an offline content server and a local Wi-Fi hotspot, with a storage capacity of 2 terabytes. The system provides teachers and students access to download over 3,000 digital books and thousands of instructional videos, without the need for an internet connection.

The school was also equipped with one laptop for teachers and 10 KOOMPI computers for students to practice digital skills directly. A green energy solar power system was installed with a storage capacity of 15 kilowatt-hours, ensuring reliable use of computers and electronic devices even in remote locations.

During the deployment, technical teams also conducted short training sessions for 20 teachers, who teach a total of 757 students, as well as for parents and nearby residents. The training focused on the use of the equipment and on downloading lessons via the local Wi-Fi hotspot within the school compound.
