Hun Sen, President of the Senate and Chairman of the Cambodian People’s Party, has asked the Prime Minister and the Royal Government of Cambodia to consider temporarily suspending all travel across the border between Cambodia and Thailand.

The request, via social media, comes after attacks this week by Thai troops into Cambodian territory that has caused significant damage to lives and infrastructure.

In the message to his compatriots, Samdech Techo highlighted the tense situation in recent days, saying that the Thai army had invaded and attacked Cambodian people indiscriminately.

The attacks included the use of artillery and aircraft, destroying bridges, roads, schools and temples.

In addition, Samdech Techo said that toxic smoke and cluster bombs had been used in many locations, including places where Thai citizens were living and working in Cambodia.

Standing on top of the actual situation and to ensure the safety of the people, Samdech Techo Hun Sen has advised the Royal Government to consider suspending travel between Cambodia and Thailand.

Regarding this measure, Samdech Techo appealed as follows:

1. For Cambodian citizens currently residing and working in Thailand, please continue to reside there.

2. For Thai citizens currently residing and working in Cambodia, please continue to reside in Cambodia.

Samdech Techo stated that such practices must be carried out until the ceasefire is fully implemented to avoid any eventual accidents during travel, especially in border areas.

Meanwhile, Samdech Techo Hun Sen also asked the people of both countries to understand the difficult circumstances.

In particular, he urged the Royal Government of Cambodia to help protect the safety of Thai people living in Cambodian territory from the dangers caused by bullets, bombs, or toxic fumes fired from the Thai side.
