The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS) has announced that 172 Cambodian students who recently returned from Thailand due to escalating border tensions will be granted scholarships under the prestigious “Samdech Techo Scholarship” initiative.

According to an official press release issued today, the scholarships—established under the patronage of Mr Hun Sen, President of the Senate—will enable the students to continue their higher education at public and private institutions within Cambodia.

The announcement follows the return of 423 Cambodian students from Thailand between July 24 and July 30, after armed clashes erupted along the Cambodia-Thailand border.

Of those who returned, 172 formally requested financial support to resume their studies in Cambodia.

“The Ministry, with the highest level of care and attention from Samdech Techo, will provide scholarships to all 172 students so that they can continue their education uninterrupted,” the statement read.

MoEYS is now calling on the 172 scholarship recipients to directly contact higher education institutions of their choice in Cambodia to begin the enrolment process and complete all required documentation.

To ensure a smooth transition, the Ministry has appointed Hong Kimcheang, Under Secretary of State, as the focal coordinator for the scholarship program. He can be reached via phone and Telegram at +855 12 225 303 for assistance.
