A: Cambodia strongly protests this action, as the deployment of heavy machinery to construct an earthen trench in an area within Cambodia’s sovereign territory constitutes a unilateral action that violates Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. In particular, this action occurs in an area where border issues have not yet been permanently resolved. Therefore, no action should be taken that could create a new situation on the ground.
Q2: Does this action by Thailand constitute a violation of the agreements mutually reached by both countries?
A: This action is inconsistent with the principle of respecting Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and also does not conform to the agreements mutually reached by both countries. In particular, it contradicts Article 5 of the MOU 2000 and Point 1 of the GBC Joint Statement of December 27, 2025, which focus on avoiding provocative actions and maintaining the status quo in unresolved areas.
