On the afternoon of 22 July 2026, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a farewell call from His Excellency UENO Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, at the Peace Palace upon the completion of his diplomatic mission in Cambodia.

During the meeting, the Ambassador expressed his appreciation and great pleasure at the continued strengthening of relations and cooperation between the two countries. He also expressed his deep gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia for its continued support, close cooperation, and facilitation, which contributed significantly to the successful fulfilment of his diplomatic mission and to the remarkable achievements made across a wide range of sectors, including the economy, trade, investment, security, and defence. The Ambassador highlighted the growing investments of major Japanese companies in Cambodia, such as Toyota, noting that these investments not only create jobs for the Cambodian people but also facilitate the transfer of advanced technology and skills. He also expressed his gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia for its continued support and encouragement of Japanese investors. Furthermore, the Ambassador reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to continuing its support for Cambodia and to further strengthening and expanding bilateral relations.

In response, Samdech Thipadei congratulated the Ambassador on the successful completion of his diplomatic mission in Cambodia. Samdech Thipadei also highly valued the Ambassador’s active contributions to advancing Cambodia–Japan relations and cooperation. Samdech Thipadei reaffirmed the Royal Government’s strong commitment to maintaining a favourable investment climate by carrying out key reforms — particularly restructuring and improving the operational mechanisms of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) and modernising the tax system — in order to facilitate investment and strengthen foreign investors’ confidence in Cambodia. Samdech Thipadei further affirmed that the Royal Government would continue to support cooperation across all sectors between the ministries and institutions of both countries.

Before concluding the meeting, Samdech Thipadei and the Ambassador exchanged views on further promoting cooperation in high-potential sectors, including the digital economy, security and defence, as well as enhancing supply chain connectivity and logistics through the development of the Sihanoukville Deep Sea Port into a major regional logistics hub in the future.
