China-Cambodia ties set regional model, FM says

China continued to advance the friendship cultivated by the older generation of leaders, aiming to set a gold standard for neighbouring relations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on June 26.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during a meeting in Beijing with Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Prak Sokhonn and Council for the Development of Cambodia Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice-Chairman Sun Chanthol.

The ministers accompanied Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) President and Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen on his official visit to China.

“China appreciated Cambodia’s support for the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity,” Wang said, noting that Beijing intended to strengthen strategic coordination with Phnom Penh to safeguard Global South interests and promote regional stability.

Sokhonn pledged the Kingdom’s prioritisation of relations with China. He said that Cambodia was eager to implement the consensus reached by leaders of both countries, deepen strategic mutual trust, and uphold fundamental norms governing international relations.

Chanthol highlighted the potential for expanded economic integration.

“Cambodia welcomes Chinese enterprises and will spare no effort to create a secure, friendly business environment,” he said, citing trade, investment and infrastructure as key fields for collaboration. Xinhua
