Cambodia PR Team Responses Regarding Cambodia’s Measures and Stance in Resolving Border Issues
June 9, 2026

Q1: What has the Royal Government done to help displaced civilians affected by the border conflict?

A: The Royal Government has not been indifferent to the suffering of its citizens. In fact, through the relevant committees and institutions, the Royal Government has constructed temporary houses, provided clean water and electricity to every house, built necessary infrastructure, and offered continuous livelihood support. At the same time, the Royal Government has also encouraged the purchase of agricultural products from the local communities, especially displaced persons to help sustain their livelihoods. Ensuring the security, safety, and rehabilitation of their economic well-being remains the highest priority of the Royal Government, both for displaced persons who have already returned home and for those who have not yet been able to return.

Q2: Does the establishment of “Waiting Village” mean that Cambodia has abandoned its territorial claims?

A: The establishment of “Waiting Village” does not mean that Cambodia has abandoned its territorial claims. The naming of this village by Samdech Techo as “Waiting Village” is deeply significant: citizens are waiting for the peaceful resolution of border issues so that they could return to their homes safely and with dignity. Cambodia continues to maintain its stance of not recognizing territorial occupation through the use of force and continues to assert its legal rights through lawful mechanisms and international diplomacy. The good news for the displaced persons is that even after the border issues are fully resolved and they are able to return home, the Royal Government will continue to grant them ownership of these temporary houses.

Q3: Why does Cambodia not use military force to immediately reclaim its territory, as the opposition constantly incites?

A: Cambodia is not incapable of self-defense, but the use of force could lead to serious consequences. If Cambodia were to initiate armed conflict, it could be labeled by the international community as the violator of the ceasefire, undermining Cambodia’s political and diplomatic support from the international community. Furthermore, it could result in casualties among both soldiers and civilians and compel displaced persons to flee once again. Therefore, Cambodia chooses a solution that protects both national interests and the lives of its citizens. The opposition’s incitement reflects a narrow perspective that focuses on a single tree while ignoring the broader forest. They want armed conflict to erupt without any regard for the lives of soldiers and civilians. This is a form of politics that uses the people’s blood and tears as a bargaining chip.

Q4: What is Cambodia’s stance regarding the non-compliance with agreements by the Thai side?

A: Cambodia continues to respect and implement agreements and the ceasefire in good faith. Cambodia hopes that the Thai side will respect all points of the Joint Statement of December 27, 2025, especially Point 3, and allow relevant mechanisms such as the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) to carry out their work smoothly. If there is non-compliance with agreements or violation of the ceasefire, the Thai side will be held accountable to the international community, and the world will not stand idly by.
