Press Freedom Maintained During Border Tensions, Ministry Spokesman Says

The Ministry of Information has affirmed that press freedom was fully upheld during recent tensions along the Cambodia–Thailand border, with more than 100 journalists from around 50 media organisations reporting from the ground.

Ministry Undersecretary of State and spokesman Tep Asnarith said both national and international journalists were able to carry out their work freely, including news gathering and reporting, throughout the period of heightened tensions.

“We would like to inform that during the period of tensions along the Cambodia–Thailand border, the freedom to carry out journalistic work, including news gathering and reporting, has been fully guaranteed,” he said.

According to the spokesman, the journalists represented a wide range of domestic and foreign media outlets, including international news agencies and major global broadcasting networks.

They reported on the factual situation, developments, and impacts arising from the border conflict during both the first and second waves.

Asnarith noted that all reporting activities were conducted in line with professional ethics and in compliance with Cambodian laws. He added that the safety of journalists was also fully ensured during their coverage, with authorities working in coordination with media professionals.

“The safety of journalists in carrying out their work has also been genuinely and fully ensured,” he said, noting that reporters complied with security measures and relevant guidelines, particularly in high-risk areas.

These measures, he said, were necessary to safeguard national sovereignty and security while ensuring that journalists could continue to perform their duties in accordance with professional standards.
