Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Pledges to Further Strengthen and Expand Korea–Cambodia Relations
On the morning of 17 March 2026, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from His Excellency KIM Chang Yong, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the Peace Palace.
During the meeting, His Excellency the Ambassador emphasised that he was truly honoured to be appointed by the Government of the Republic of Korea as Ambassador to Cambodia—a country with a long history and rich culture and civilisation. He also expressed his satisfaction with the excellent relations and cooperation between the two nations, which have steadily grown since the re-establishment of diplomatic ties in 1997, a development advanced by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister and current President of the Senate. At present, relations between the two countries continue to be actively strengthened and expanded through exchanges at all levels and progress across various sectors. His Excellency the Ambassador further noted that 2027 will mark the 30th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, on which occasion the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Cambodia plans to organise a series of programmes to celebrate this significant milestone. He further reaffirmed the Republic of Korea’s intention to strengthen and expand its relations with Cambodia and expressed his firm commitment to enhancing bilateral ties and cooperation to achieve further fruitful outcomes during his diplomatic mission.
In response, Samdech Thipadei welcomed and congratulated His Excellency KIM Chang Yong on his appointment. He highly valued the steady progress of bilateral cooperation and recalled that the elevation of relations to a “Strategic Partnership” in 2024 has created broader opportunities for further cooperation.
Before concluding, Samdech Thipadei and His Excellency the Ambassador exchanged views on promoting cooperation in key areas, including the economy, trade, investment, education, defence, and security. Furthermore, both sides highly valued the effective cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of both countries in combating online scams.
