Prime Minister Hun Manet called for unity and coordinated action across all sectors, encouraging citizens not to dwell on sorrow but continue moving forward economically and socially despite ongoing border conflicts with Thailand.
His remarks came during the ‘Gathering of Grade A Students from the High School BAC II Examination and the Technical and Vocational Skills Level 3 Examination’ in Phnom Penh on February 10.
Prime Minister Hun Manet said, “We do not want war, in the border areas we want development. We want to open the border crossings to develop the economy and establish good relations with the neighbouring country.”
However, the Premier noted that the situation over the past six months has left the government with limited options, and the authorities’ priority is to ensure public safety, particularly for residents and students in affected areas.
“We have set up temporary classrooms and camps in some safe areas rather than leaving the students and teachers in the affected areas,” he noted.
He acknowledged that the Royal Government’s solutions to address the border conflict with Thailand may take time, but said they are necessary to secure long-term stability and shared prosperity for both nations, while avoiding military clashes that could negatively affect citizens.
He underscored that while the situation has caused hardship, including political pressure, national unity remains essential to overcoming challenges and strengthening Cambodia’s future.
“Cambodia can only be strong if the people are strong,” Mr Hun Manet said, highlighting education as a key pillar of national resilience.
The Premier added that the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS) is working to expand the education system and enhance teachers’ capacity, while urging all ministries and institutions to actively fulfil their responsibilities.
“All sectors–economic and social–must move forward together,” Hun Manet said, calling for collective efforts to maintain momentum and serve the people despite ongoing difficulties.
