Defence Ministry rejects Thai media report on alleged bombing near military base

The Ministry of National Defence has strongly rejected reports by several Thai media outlets claiming that a 40-millimetre grenade was fired and landed near the Phlan Hin Pet Kon military base, calling the reports entirely false and fabricated.
In a press statement issued today, Ministry spokesperson Lieutenant General Maly Socheata said, certain Thai media networks had published breaking news alleging that Thailand’s 2nd Army Area had detected a 40mm bomb fired by the other side near the Phlan Hin Pet Kon military base.
The spokesperson categorically denied the report, stressing that the information is fake and completely contrary to the facts. She said the false reporting was intended to mislead public opinion and create tension along the Cambodia–Thailand border.
According to information from Cambodia’s Military Region 4 of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, communication teams from Cambodia’s Military Region 4 and Thailand’s 2nd Army Area contacted each other to verify the situation.
Both sides confirmed that no such incident had occurred, contrary to the Thai media reports.
The ministry reaffirmed Cambodia’s firm commitment to fully and responsibly respect and implement the joint statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025, the joint statement on the Cambodia–Thailand peace agreement of October 26, 2025, and other related agreements. The ministry emphasised its commitment to counter fake news in order to promote a swift return to normalcy, peace, stability and long-term security along the border.
The ministry also urged the public and members of the media not to share false information and to rely only on clear, accurate and reliable sources, particularly official information released by the government, official leadership pages, and relevant ministries and institutions.
