According to reliable sources, a representative of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States has confirmed to senior Cambodian officials that no FBI personnel were present during a site visit led by the army intelligence chief at O’Smach in Cambodia, contrary to reports published by Thai media.
A recent article in The Nation claimed that the Thai army intelligence chief on 2 February led “FBI and foreign attachés” to inspect an alleged scam operation at casinos in O’Smach, Cambodia, portraying Cambodian territory as a criminal base and justifying Thai military presence.
Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a strong formal protest against the incursion, noting that the site visit was conducted without the approval of the Royal Government of Cambodia. The ministry described the action as a violation of Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The hotels and inspected locations are situated just 397 metres from the O’Smach International Border Checkpoint, near border marker No. 15. The area was illegally occupied by Thai armed forces during their military aggression against Cambodia from 7–27 December 2025.
Cambodia has firmly rejected and protested the operations conducted by Thai forces, including the unlawful exercise of Thai authority through the site visit, calling it a violation of the United Nations Charter, ASEAN principles, and an attempt to legitimise control over Cambodian sovereign territory.
