Prime Minister Hun Manet has unveiled a comprehensive emergency response to assist hundreds of families displaced by recent incursions along the Thai border, promising a swift return to normalcy through demining and reconstruction.

During a high-profile visit yesterday to 540 displaced families at a safety centre in Preah Vihear province, the Prime Minister outlined a three-pillar roadmap designed to address the immediate humanitarian crisis following the military standoff.

The government’s directive focuses on clearing the path for civilians to return home while ensuring those still in limbo are not forgotten. The three primary pillars include:

• Secured Returns: For residents in accessible areas, the Ministries of Defence and Interior are coordinating a phased return. The Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) is currently sweeping residential zones for unexploded ordnance (UXO) and remnants of war to ensure total safety before families are permitted to re-enter.

• Upgraded Temporary Housing: Families unable to return due to ongoing security concerns will be moved from rudimentary shelters to improved transitional facilities. The Ministry of Land Management and the Ministry of Economy are evaluating current sites to provide “stability solutions,” including financial mechanisms to sustain daily livelihoods.

• Infrastructure Reconstruction: A dedicated task force is conducting damage assessments of public assets, including schools, health centres, and vital transport links. The Prime Minister confirmed that the national budget, bolstered by support from international development partners, will fund the reconstruction of roads, utility networks, and telecommunications as soon as the security situation permits.

The Premier’s visit to the Thbeng Meanchey district follows months of heightened tension that left a trail of damage across the kingdom’s northern border. An Ad Hoc Commission for Livelihood and Infrastructure Restoration has been established specifically to manage the economic recovery of these frontier communities.

“The government is committed to protecting the interests of our citizens and restoring the infrastructure that sustains their lives,” the Prime Minister said, expressing gratitude to the volunteers and NGOs that provided a sanctuary for the displaced during the height of the crisis. AKP
