Senior military officials from Cambodia and Thailand met at the Poipet International Border Checkpoint today to coordinate regional security and finalise preparations for high-level border talks scheduled for later this week.
Ministry of National Defence Spokeswoman Maly Socheata announced that the Secretariat of the Cambodia-Thailand Regional Border Committee (RBC) met to coordinate strategies between Cambodia’s 5th Military Region and Thailand’s 1st Army Area.
The Cambodian delegation was led by Major General Sar Kimpak, while Major General Phittayakool Pothisuwan headed the Thai contingent.
According to Socheata, the primary objective of the two-day session is to draft the agenda and exchange necessary documentation for the RBC Special Meeting on Thursday. These discussions follow the framework established during the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee on Dec. 27, 2025.
The talks aim to bolster mutual trust and maintain regional stability as both nations work toward normalising border conditions. Notably, the proceedings are being monitored by an ASEAN Observer Team comprising representatives from both member states.
