Synopsis: King Norodom Sihamoni presents gifts to injured soldiers, thanks them for defending the country’s sovereignty, peace and territorial integrity.
King Norodom Sihamoni on Saturday visited injured soldiers recovering in hospitals in Phnom Penh, including Preah Ket Mealea Hospital and Calmette Hospital, to offer encouragement and support.
The visit reflected the King’s deep concern for soldiers who have made sacrifices to protect the nation’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and peace. His presence served to boost morale and strengthen the resolve of the armed forces in carrying out their duties to defend the country and its people.
Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Royal Palace Kuy Sophal; Supreme Privy Council member Tea Banh, National Defence Minister General Tea Seiha, Health Minister Chheang Ra, and other senior officials, the King met with wounded soldiers and presented gifts to help ease their suffering, demonstrating his compassion and close attention to the well-being of the national armed forces.
On the same day, Sophal also visited and distributed gifts to soldiers receiving treatment for injuries and illnesses at Preah Ang Duong Hospital, Preah Kossomak Hospital and the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital.
According to the Minister of the Royal Palace, the King and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk conveyed their appreciation to all forces guarding the border areas for their solidarity and dedication in preserving peace, sovereignty and territorial integrity. They also expressed deep sympathy for soldiers recovering from injuries and illnesses sustained while bravely defending the country.
The King and Queen Mother wished the soldiers a speedy recovery, good health and strength.
The King and Queen Mother have consistently shown compassion for compatriots affected by the Thai military aggression, including by donating funds to support displaced civilians and soldiers, helping to ease the government’s burden.
In December last year, the King donated $200,000 to assist families displaced by Thai military aggression and to support frontline troops stationed along the Cambodia–Thailand border.
The Thai military launched assaults against Cambodia between December 7 and 27, triggering mass evacuations in the border provinces of Preah Vihear, Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat and Koh Kong.
Thai airstrikes also struck civilian infrastructure deep inside Cambodian territory, about 100 kilometres from the border, in Battambang and Siem Reap provinces.
Geopolitics expert Yang Peou said their actions demonstrate genuine humanitarian concern, not only for soldiers and refugees but also for communities affected by public health challenges, social welfare issues and climate-related risks.
“This support is a powerful encouragement to the government, frontline forces and the people,” he said. “The King and Queen Mother stand alongside them at all times.”
