Breaking News! Defence Spokesperson: Thai Soldiers Fire at Cambodian Side; Cambodia Did Not Return Fire

Thai soldiers this afternoon fired handguns, B40 rockets and 60mm mortars at Cambodian side; but Cambodia did not return fire, according to a press statement issued by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defence.

Thai soldiers opened fire on Cambodian forces at Prolean Thmor in Choam Ksan district, Preah Vihear province, at around 14:15, the spokesperson said.

During the incident, the Thai troops used handguns, B40 rocket launchers, and 60mm mortars. Cambodian forces immediately contacted their Thai counterparts, demanding an urgent halt to the firing, as Cambodia did not retaliate.

The Thai military ceased fire at around 14:32 the same afternoon.

According to the statement, Cambodian forces refrained from returning fire and are closely monitoring the situation with utmost caution. Cambodia has notified the ASEAN Observers Team (AOT) about the incident and plans to request an AOT investigation to ensure transparency, fairness, and accuracy.

Cambodia reaffirmed its firm commitment to respecting and implementing the terms of the ceasefire and the Joint Declaration on Peace Deal between Cambodia and Thailand, based on goodwill and the highest level of responsibility.

“The Kingdom reiterated its adherence to resolving disputes through peaceful means, in accordance with international law, treaties, conventions, and existing agreements, and rejects threats or the use of force – striving instead for a just, proper, lasting, and lawful solution,” underlined the spokesperson.
