Cambodia and Thailand will convene the 2nd Special General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting on 23 October in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with Cambodia expecting constructive discussions on key border issues.

The Cambodian delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence General Tea Seiha, departed Cambodia today, following the GBC Secretariat Meeting held from 20–23 October in Kuala Lumpur.

General Tea Seiha said on his official Facebook page that Cambodia looks forward to talks “in a friendly and constructive environment with a high sense of good faith on priority issues, while strictly adhering to the spirit of previous agreements; in particular, the removal of heavy and destructive weapons and equipment, which shall be implemented under the observation and verification of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT).”

The agenda will also cover humanitarian demining efforts and cooperation to prevent and combat transnational crimes, including online scams. “It is anticipated that the discussions between both parties will yield positive results,” General Tea Seiha added.

He expressed confidence that the meeting would contribute to promoting peace, cooperation, development, and a swift return to normalcy along the Cambodian–Thai border.
