The National Assembly of Cambodia has rejected a report by Thailand’s The Nation, which it said contained false information and misrepresented Cambodia’s diplomatic conduct at the international level.

In a statement released on Sunday, the National Assembly clarified that on the morning of October 19, a Cambodian parliamentary delegation attended the ASEAN+3 meeting and the Asia-Pacific Group meeting during the 151st General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, Switzerland.

The delegation, led by Nguy Chanphal, demonstrated what the statement described as a “friendly attitude” toward the Thai delegation, particularly toward Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, President of the Thai National Assembly, who personally greeted and shook hands with the Cambodian representatives.

The National Assembly said the Thai media reports falsely accused Cambodia of using international forums to damage Thailand’s reputation. On the contrary, the Cambodian delegation expressed support for the Thai delegation’s proposed draft emergency item on “Strengthening Parliamentary Action Against Transnational Cybercrime while Upholding Humanitarian Principles.”

According to the statement, Cambodia not only supported the proposal but also suggested constructive amendments to make the draft more comprehensive, effective, and universally valuable.

The National Assembly reaffirmed Cambodia’s longstanding position as an independent, sovereign, and territorially intact state, committed to international cooperation under the principles of solidarity and respect for international law. It also emphasised that friendship between Cambodia and Thailand must be grounded in mutual understanding, respect, and equality — principles it described as essential to maintaining lasting peace and regional cooperation.
